Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman and Yordan Alvarez are among five Houston Astros players who were placed on the Injured List Wednesday for COVID-19 protocols, the team announced.

Starting catcher Martin Maldonado and utility infielder Robel Garcia were the other two.

Astros general manager James Click said the moves were “as a result of health and safety protocols.”

According to MLB Network, there’s one known positive case for COVID-19 on the team, though the Astros have not confirmed that.

The Astros are bringing up infielders Abraham Toro, Alex De Goti and Taylor Jones, catcher Garrett Stubbs and outfielder Ronnie Dawson.

Despite the heavy losses, the Astros’ game against the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night is still on. Alvarez, Bregman and Altuve have accounted for 19 of the team’s 56 RBIs so far this season. Altuve is batting .318, Bregman .286 and Alvarez .283. The trio has a combined five home runs so far.

“There’s been no talk of postponing the game,” Tigers manager AJ Hinch said. “The Astros have communicated to us the situation that they’re in, some of the decisions that they’re making. But that’s their news to report. We’re ready to play.”

Astros manager Dusty Baker said the players affected have all had at least their first vaccination shot.
