The Oakland Athletics placed right-hander James Kaprielian on the 10-day injured list with a shoulder impingement on Saturday.

The Athletics also optioned catcher Aramis Garcia to Triple-A Las Vegas to clear room on the 26-man roster for trade deadline acquisitions Yan Gomes and Josh Harrison. Gomes, a catcher, and Harrison, a second baseman, were acquired in a deal with the Washington Nationals on Friday in exchange for catcher Drew Millas and right-handers Seth Shuman and Richard Gausch.

Kaprielian, 27, owns a 5-4 record with a 3.24 ERA in 13 starts this season. He was gashed for six runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings of a 7-4 setback at the San Diego Padres on Tuesday.

Garcia, 28, batted .205 with three homers and seven RBIs in 32 games this season, his first with Oakland. He is a career .218 hitter with nine homers and 21 RBIs in 69 games with the San Francisco Giants and Athletics.
