Houston Astros outfielder Jake Meyers underwent surgery on Wednesday to repair a labral tear in his left shoulder.

The Astros said it is unlikely Meyers will be ready for Opening Day of the 2022 season.

Meyers, 25, injured the shoulder when he slammed into the center field wall during Game 4 of the American League Division Series in Chicago against the White Sox. He was trying to catch a homer by Chicago’s Gavin Sheets.

Meyers fell to the ground in obvious pain. After being attended to by trainers, the left-handed thrower lobbied to stay in the game but shortstop Carlos Correa and manager Dusty Baker discussed the situation with him and Meyers exited.

Meyers batted .260 with six homers and 28 RBIs in 49 regular-season games and went 3-for-8 with two RBIs in four playoff games.
