Adam Duvall and Austin Riley homered and drove in three runs each, Ozzie Albies and Travis d’Arnaud also went deep, and the Atlanta Braves beat the Colorado Rockies 9-2 in Denver on Sunday.
Jorge Soler had two hits and Charlie Morton pitched seven strong innings for Atlanta. The Braves (72-64) maintained their two-game lead over Philadelphia in the NL East.
Raimel Tapia had two hits for Colorado in pitcher Ryan Feltner’s major league debut.
Albies hit the first major league pitch from Feltner over the scoreboard in right field to give Atlanta a 1-0 lead. It was his 26th of the season.
Feltner got through the second but Atlanta jumped on him in the third inning. Morton led off with a single, Soler singled and Freeman walked to load the bases. Riley drove in Morton with a sacrifice fly and then Duvall homered to center to clear the bases.
It was his 31st of the season, and d’Arnaud followed with his sixth of the year to make it 6-0.
Ashton Goudeau relieved Feltner and got the final out of the inning. Feltner (0-1) allowed six runs on five hits and walked two in 2 2/3 innings.
The Rockies (63-74) broke through against Morton in the fourth inning. Tapia led off with a triple to center and scored on a groundout by Brendan Rodgers to bring home their first run.
The Braves put it away in the seventh inning after reliever Julian Fernandez — who also made his major league debut — retired the first two batters. Soler doubled to center field and moved to third on a wild pitch. Freeman drove him in with a single to right and Riley homered to left, his 29th of the season, to make it 9-1.
Colorado got another run without a hit in the bottom of the inning. Trevor Story walked, moved to second on a wild pitch and then went to third on C.J. Cron’s groundout. Ryan McMahon brought him home with a sacrifice fly to left.
Morton (13-5) allowed two runs on two hits and struck out four in seven innings.
