One week after he was designated for assignment, the Arizona Diamondbacks officially gave right-handed reliever Anthony Swarzak his outright release Sunday.

The move makes the 35-year-old a free agent after just six appearances with the Diamondbacks this season. The 11-year veteran made the Arizona roster out of spring training after signing a minor league deal.

Swarzak was 0-1 with a 9.64 ERA over 4 2/3 innings this season after not pitching in 2020 when he failed to make the Philadelphia Phillies’ roster.

A second-round draft pick by the Minnesota Twins in 2004, Swarzak has a career 26-37 record with a 4.36 ERA over 381 appearances (32 starts). He has pitched in the major leagues for nine different organizations after starting his career with the Twins from 2009-14.
