MLB: Save the date: 2022 MLB season set to start March 31

Array ( [0] => [1] => 550 [2] => 367 [3] => 1 )

The 2022 Major League Baseball season is scheduled to open March 31 with all 30 teams on the field.

Scheduled is the key word, however. Amid a contentious relationship between players and owners, the potential for the first work stoppage since 1995 looms. The collective bargaining agreement expires Dec. 1.

Still, planning for the season begins.

The Opening Day schedule consists of 11 divisional matchups and an interleague game between the Philadelphia Phillies and Houston Astros at Houston’s Minute Maid Park.

The season’s interleague play will feature the American League East vs. the National League Central, the AL Central vs. the NL West, and the AL West vs. the NL East.

The All-Star Game is set for July 19 at Dodger Stadium.

Interesting early-season storylines: The Baltimore Orioles will find out fast whether they are contenders or pretenders in the AL East, with 18 divisional games in the first month; the Los Angeles Angels face the same fate as the Orioles, playing 17 of their first 19 against AL West opponents; the newly named Cleveland Guardians open their season at home against the Kansas City Royals; and MLB’s worst road team so far in 2021, the Arizona Diamondbacks, open with six games on the road.
