The Detroit Tigers placed rookie Akil Baddoo in the seven-day concussion protocol and fellow outfielder Derek Hill on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday.

Baddoo, a left fielder, crashed into center fielder Hill during the eighth inning of their game Tuesday night vs. Baltimore as both were tracking a fly ball by Anthony Santander. Hill made the catch and both players fell to the ground.

“It was a ball hit probably in the perfect spot for both guys to be going full speed and both with a chance to catch it,” manager A.J. Hinch said after the Tigers’ 9-4 win. “You don’t see it a lot at this level, but when you seem them, they’re nasty. Two big, physical athletes.”

Baddoo and Hill both walked off the field under their own power and exited the game after being attended to by a trainer.

Hill, 25, was placed on the injured list with a left ribcage contusion. He is batting .250 with one homer and eight RBIs in 28 games this season.

Baddoo, who turns 23 on Monday, is hitting .267 with 10 homers, 45 RBIs and 14 stolen bases in 93 games this season. He leads the American League with six triples.

Also on Wednesday, the Tigers called up infielders Zack Short and Renato Nunez from Triple-A Toledo.

Short, 26, batted .145 with five homers and 17 RBIs in 40 games with Detroit this season.

Nunez, 27, batted .148 (4-for-27) with two homers and three RBIs in seven games with the Tigers.
