The Atlanta Braves activated Travis d’Arnaud off the 60-day injured list, and the catcher is back behind the plate for Wednesday night’s game.

d’Arnaud missed 86 games after surgery to repair a ligament in his thumb.

The Braves designated catcher Kevan Smith for assignment.

“It’s been a long three and a half months,” d’Arnaud said. “To come back with the guys trending upward is super exciting. I’m very fortunate.”

d’Arnaud was batting just .220 with two home runs and 11 RBIs in 23 games when he went on the IL May 2. But he’s coming off a 2020 season that saw him earn the Silver Slugger award after batting .321 with an OPS of .919.

d’Arnaud is batting seventh against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night.
