Eastern Washington big man Tanner Groves, who dazzled in his one game in the NCAA Tournament, is transferring to Oklahoma.

With the Sooners, he’ll have two annual meetings with Big 12 opponent Kansas. It was against the Jayhawks that he scored 35 points in the Eagles’ first-round loss in the tournament. Kansas rallied from 10 points down in the second half to beat the 14th-seeded Eagles 93-84.

The 6-foot-9 Groves, who is from Spokane, Wash., was the Big Sky Conference player of the year. He averaged 17.2 points and 8.0 rebounds on the season and shot 56.0 percent.

“Never have I been in the position to make a decision this big so it’s taken me some time to think and reflect,” he posted on Twitter Sunday night. “I can’t wait to get down to Norman and get to work. It’s been a lifelong dream of mine to play on the biggest stage of college basketball and I’m blessed with this opportunity.”

Groves entered the transfer portal after Eastern Washington coach Shantay Legans was hired at Portland. Groves is the first big addition for Porter Moser, who left Loyola Chicago for Oklahoma after the retirement of Lon Kruger.
