Gambit Esports lock up playoff spot in ESL Pro League

Gambit Esports locked up a playoff spot and remained unbeaten in Group D play Saturday at the ESL Pro League Season 14 event.

Gambit (4-0) swept Entropiq (1-3), while Team Liquid (3-1) swept Team oNe (0-4) and FURIA Esports (2-2) posted a 2-1 win against Ninjas in Pyjamas (2-2) on the penultimate day of round-robin play.

Liquid opened the action Saturday with a 16-8 win on Mirage and a 16-11 win on Inferno. American Michael “Grim” Wince had 49 kills and a plus-21 kills-to-deaths differential for Liquid, while Brazilian Matheus “prt” Scuvero led oNe with 37 kills and an even differential.

Gambit defeated Entropiq with a 16-13 decision on Dust II and a 16-10 win on Vertigo. Russian Sergey “Ax1Le” Rykhtorov had a team-high 44 kills and countryman Dmitry “sh1ro” Sokolov finished with a team-high plus-17 ratio. Igor “Forester” Bezotecheskiy, also of Russia, paced Entropiq with 45 kills and a plus-5 differential.

FURIA opened a tight battle with Ninjas with a 16-13 win on Nuke. After losing 16-14 on Ancient, FURIA closed it out with a 16-9 victory on Mirage. Kaike “KSCERATO” Cerato had a huge day with 74 kills and a plus-30 kills-to-deaths differential for FURIA. Hampus “hampus” Poser tallied 61 kills for NiP.

The 24-team Counter-Strike: Global Offensive league is broken into four groups for the round-robin opening round. The winner of each group advances to the playoff quarterfinals, while the second- and third-place teams in each group qualify for the playoffs’ Round of 12.

All matches are best-of-three until the playoff final on Sept. 12, which will be best-of-five. The championship team will earn $175,000 from a $750,000 prize pool. The runner-up will receive $60,000.

The first three groups already concluded their round robins. Heroic won Group A, with Team Vitality and ENCE claiming second and third, respectively. In Group B, the top three were OG, forZe and Complexity Gaming. Natus Vincere prevailed in Group C with mousesports and Fnatic emerging for the second and third berths.

Group D action concludes Sunday with three matches:
