Matt Bussa jumped from fifth to first on the final lap to claim a playoff spot in an intense final regular-season race of the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series season at a virtual Michigan International Speedway.

Bussa, a Darien, Ill., resident racing in the No. 75 Ford, entered the race in 18th in the driver standings having finished in the top five of a race only once this season. The top 10 drivers in the standings make the playoffs.

“I still can’t believe it,” Bussa said of making the playoffs. “I just thought there was no way.”

Bussa is the 13th winner in 14 rounds this season. The victory was the second of his career on the circuit.

Jake Matheson in the No. 52 Ford finished in second place, 0.l73 seconds behind Bussa. Jake Nichols in No. 24 Ford came in third place. Michael Conti in the No. 8 Chevrolet and Zack Novak in the No. 90 Toyota rounded out the top five.

Keegan Leahy in the No. 32 Toyota was in first place at the start of the last lap. However, Matheson, who was in second place, bumped Leahy, causing the race leader to spin out.

“I think that is just last-lap racing really hard,” Matheson said. “I haven’t really seen the full reply yet. … I know what I saw, but I’ll talk to him about it.”

Bussa took advantage of the opportunity and beat Matheson to the inside after the bump, taking the lead for good. Leahy finished in 28th place.
