OpTic Chicago’s Matthew “FormaL” Piper announced his intention to retire from the Call of Duty scene ahead of the 2022 season.

“After 10 years of scrims, tournaments, and just grinding altogether it can get tiresome,” FormaL wrote Saturday on TwitLonger. “I do believe I could still compete, but it’d be just straight up selfish to whoever I’d be playing with, knowing I might not give them my all.”

FormaL, 26, has recorded 23 LAN tournament victories and one Call of Duty Champs win. He previously competed with OpTic Gaming, Luminosity Gaming and Chicago Huntsmen.

“To my fans, especially the Greenwall, you now have my full attention,” FormaL wrote Saturday on Twitlonger. “I’d like to see where creating content might take me, it’s definitely grown on me throughout this year through the podcasts and other videos we made at the HQ.”

Optic Chicago’s roster will be reduced to Seth “Scump” Abner and Brandon “Dashy” Otell with Dylan “Envoy” Hannon’s impending free agency.
