Counter Strike Global Offensive (CSGO), GODSENT advance through Group B at IEM Winter

GODSENT came back from a map down against BIG and swept Gambit Esports to reach the upper-bracket final of Group B at the Intel Extreme Masters Season XVI Winter event on Friday.

GODSENT and will face off Saturday to determine the group’s top seed, but regardless of the outcome, both will advance to the playoff stage of the tournament.

BIG beat GODSENT 16-9 on Inferno before GODSENT charged back with 16-12 wins on Mirage and Nuke to advance. Eduardo “dumau” Wolkmer led the all-Brazilian GODSENT side with 60 kills and a plus-11 kills-to-deaths differential. Florian “syrsoN” Rische of Germany carried BIG with 68 kills and a plus-18. eked out a 19-15 triumph on Dust II and a 16-14 win on Vertigo. Russians Dzhami “Jame” Ali and Evgeny “FL1T” Lebedev recorded 47 kills apiece for, with Jame notching a game-high plus-23 differential. Sergey “Ax1Le” Rykhtorov of Russia posted 45 kills for Gambit.

The Group B lower bracket kicked off when Fnatic swept ENCE and FaZe Clan swept Heroic. ENCE and Heroic bowed out of the tournament.

In Group A’s lower bracket, Ninjas in Pyjamas outlasted OG in the second round 2-1. After Ninjas won 16-13 on Inferno, OG took Ancient by the same score. Ninjas clinched the match with a 16-8 win on Nuke.

Team Liquid beat Astralis on the other side of that bracket, posting a lopsided 16-1 win on Nuke before finishing the job, 16-10 on Mirage. OG and Astralis were eliminated with their respective losses.

Sixteen teams are competing for a share of a $250,000 prize pool. Opening-round matches were best-of-one, followed by best-of-three series for the rest of the group stage. Six teams will reach the single-elimination playoff bracket Dec. 11 and Dec. 12, with the quarterfinals and semifinals best-of-three and the finals best-of-five.
