Wizards District Gaming win second straight NBA 2K League title

Wizards District Gaming swept Jazz Gaming 3-0 in the best-of-five finals to earn their second straight NBA 2K League championship Saturday at Mavs Gaming Hub in Dallas.

In the process, the affiliate of the Washington Wizards secured the first-place prize of $450,000 and also became the first NBA 2K team to win multiple championships, let alone two in a row.

Point guard Jack “JBM” Mascone was named Finals MVP after averaging 22.3 points and 11.3 assists in the series.

In Game 1, Wizards District Gaming fell behind 14-9 early before rallying to tie it at 29 at halftime and take control in the third quarter on the way to a 69-62 victory.

Brandon “BRich” Richardson led the team with 21 points at shooting guard, while backcourt mate JBM racked up 19 points and 14 assists beside him. Jazz Gaming point guard Kimanni “Splashy” Ingram led all scorers with 34.

The second game unfolded differently with Wizards District Gaming taking a 13-9 lead after one quarter that the squad would never relinquish, though again the final margin was close, 60-54.

JBM and BRich once again led the way, with JBM totaling 25 points and nine assists and BRich pouring in an additional 16. Splashy tied JBM with a game-high 25.

Despite a 16-15 first-quarter deficit, Game 3 was never in doubt as Wizards District Gaming closed out the series in style, winning 74-53 going away.

Finals MVP JBM once again led the way, scoring 24 and dropping 11 dimes in the deciding contest. Teammate Ryan “Dayfri” Conger nearly notched a triple double, getting 12 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists, while Splashy scored 22 in defeat.

The Wizards had the best record in the regular season and did not lose in the postseason.
