Coyotes-Kraken becomes eighth NHL postponement for Tuesday

The Arizona Coyotes and Seattle Kraken will not play their scheduled game on Tuesday because of COVID-19 concerns, adding to the long list of NHL games that have been called off in recent days.

The contest at Seattle becomes the eighth of 10 games scheduled for Tuesday to be postponed over COVID-19 concerns. Upcoming games involving teams from teams based in Canada have been postponed to avoid having players being quarantined away from home during Christmas.

“The National Hockey League announced today that due to COVID-related issues affecting the Seattle Kraken, tomorrow’s game in Seattle has been postponed,” the NHL said in a statement. “A make-up date for the game has yet to be established. Seattle’s game on Thursday has been postponed previously.”

Earlier Monday, the game between the New Jersey Devils and Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday was postponed. Other Tuesday games that have been postponed: Carolina at Boston, St. Louis at Ottawa, Winnipeg at Nashville, Florida at Chicago, Anaheim at Calgary, and Vancouver at San Jose.

According to the NHL, there have been 45 games postponed this season because of COVID concerns.

Seven NHL teams have been shut down through the Christmas break: the Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, Nashville Predators, Calgary Flames, Colorado Avalanche and Florida Panthers.
