Defender Miguel Navarro signed a contract on Monday that will keep him with the Chicago Fire FC through at least the 2024 season.

Financial terms were not disclosed by the Fire, who hold a club option on Navarro for the 2025 season.

“Signing Miguel to a new contract was a priority for us as we believe that he has outperformed his initial deal over the past two seasons,” said Georg Heitz, the Fire’s sporting director. “Since arriving to the club, Miguel has adjusted well to the demands of the league and has worked hard to consistently earn his place in the starting lineup. With our philosophy toward developing young players, we’re confident that Miguel will continue to make progress while helping the team achieve its goals.”

Navarro, 22, recorded two assists in 28 appearances (25 starts) this season. He has three assists in 47 career appearances (35 starts) since the Fire acquired him from Deportivo La Guaira in the Venezuelan first division on Jan. 25, 2020.

The Fire have been quite busy addressing their defenders of late.

Jonathan Bornstein signed a one-year contract last Thursday and fellow defender Wyatt Omsberg inked a deal through the 2022 season the following day. The Fire hold club options on Omsberg for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
