The Chicago Fire agreed Thursday to transfer midfielder Przemyslaw Frankowski to the Ligue 1 club RC Lens.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but MLSsoccer.com reported the transfer fee was about $3 million.

Frankowski, 26, tallied two goals and three assists in 13 games (12 starts) this season.

“On behalf of the entire Club, I would like to thank Przemyslaw for his contributions to the Chicago Fire,” sporting director Georg Heitz said in a news release. “This move demonstrates that young players can develop within our environment and contribute in a meaningful way before transitioning to a top-five league in the world. He has fully earned this opportunity and we wish him and his family all the best as they embark on this new chapter.”

He registered 10 goals and 13 assists in 63 matches (52 starts) with Chicago since his 2019 MLS debut.

“I would like to thank the Club and the fans for the amazing times that I had in a great Club and city,” Frankowski said. “Chicago will always be my second home. I made so many great memories in Chicago, including the birth of my son. All that’s left for me to do is to thank you all again and I wish the Club all the best for the future.”

Frankowski played seven seasons in the first division in his native Poland before joining the Fire, appearing in more than 180 matches with Lechia Gdansk (2012-14) and Jagiellonia Bialystok (2014-19).

RC Lens will open the 2021-22 Ligue 1 campaign on Sunday.
