Former Los Angeles Galaxy star Landon Donovan will have a statue in his honor erected on Oct. 3 outside Dignity Health Sports Complex in Carson, Calif., the team announced Tuesday.

Donovan scored 113 of his 145 MLS goals during 11 seasons (2005-14, 2016) for the Galaxy. He helped the team win four MLS titles (2005, 2011, 2012, 2014).

“Growing up, I never would have imagined being honored with a statue. It’s a very special feeling of which I’m incredibly proud,” Donovan said in a statement. “I spent some of the most formative years of my life with the Galaxy and the club’s fans are a part of my family. I’m proud to share a moment like this with them.”

Donovan will join David Beckham as the only former Galaxy players to be commemorated with statues.

Donovan started his MLS career with the San Jose Earthquakes (2001-04), helping that franchise win the MLS Cup in 2001 and 2003. He made the All-Star team in 14 consecutive seasons (2001-14) and was MLS MVP in 2009. The MVP award was later renamed after Donovan.

Donovan also scored 57 goals for the U.S. Men’s National Team, a record he shares with Clint Dempsey. Donovan’s MLS goal total ranks second all-time behind Chris Wondolowski (168) of the Earthquakes.

Donovan, 39, is now manager and vice president of operations for the San Diego Loyal of the United Soccer League.

“We look forward to honoring one of the most impactful players in LA Galaxy, Major League Soccer and US men’s national team history,” LA Galaxy president Chris Klein said in a statement. “Landon helped our club claim four MLS Cup titles and set numerous records for both club and country. He has played a pivotal role in establishing the LA Galaxy as the league’s most iconic and successful club. We are excited to welcome him back home for this special occasion.”
