New York City FC tries to extend their unbeaten streak to five matches Saturday when they host the struggling Columbus Crew at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J.

Following a season-opening loss to D.C. United, NYCFC (2-1-2, 8 points) won twice followed by back-to-back 1-1 ties vs. Orlando City and Toronto FC.

“We need to be at our absolutely best to get three points now,” New York City coach Ronny Deila said. “We’ve gone four games without losing. That’s a positive. We want to keep on taking points with us.”

The Crew (1-2-2, 5 points) completed a stretch of six games in 19 days with a 1-0 loss at New England on Sunday but has finally gotten a chance to refresh and recover from a spate of injuries that has resulted in their worst start since 2016.

“They have one week’s rest so it’s a different ballgame,” Delia said.

The Crew has been shut out four times in their five MLS games. Their only goals came in a 3-1 win vs. D.C. on May 8, and two of those were own goals. They are amid a stretch of 250 minutes without an offensive goal.

The defending MLS Cup champions are looking for their first win away from home since September 2019, a stretch of 15 games (0-8-7).

“We know we need to pick up some wins on the road,” Crew coach Caleb Porter said. “I’m confident we will. We’re going to keep getting better, there’s no doubt about that, and I hope we get healthier as well because that will help.”

The match will be the first of eight for NYCFC at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J., instead of Yankee Stadium because of scheduling conflicts. The Blues were 4-1 as the home team at Red Bull Arena last season, and split two CONCACAF Champions League games there.

“(Yankee Stadium) will always be, until we get a new stadium, our home ground,” Delia said. “The Red Bull stadium is a good place to play if we don’t have our first choice.”
