Switzerland rallied from a goal down to earn 2-1 victory against the United States Men’s National Team on Sunday in a friendly at St. Gallen, Switzerland.

Switzerland’s Steven Zuber broke a 1-1 tie in the 63rd minute by taking advantage of sloppy USMNT defending. Sergino Dest tried a backward clearance but the ball dropped to the 46th-minute substitute and he buried his shot past USMNT goalkeeper Ethan Horvath.

It was a positive start for the U.S. as Sebastian Lletget scored with his left foot in traffic in the fifth minute before Switzerland’s Ricardo Rodriguez tied it five minutes later for the 13th-ranked team in the world.

The U.S. played was without midfielder Christian Pulisic and goalkeeper Zack Steffen because of the UEFA Champions League final duty on Saturday. Pulisic became the first American to play in the final and win a championship when Chelsea defeated Manchester City, where Steffen is a backup.

Lletget, of the MLS’s Los Angeles Galaxy, scored for the fifth time in his past nine games with the national team. Gio Reyna’s initial ball into the box was deflected until it came to Brenden Aaronson. A quick tap to Lletget gave him his seventh goal for the U.S. in his 21st appearance.

Rodriguez equalized with a strike from 15 yards that deflected off U.S. defender Reggie Cannon and into the right side of the goal past a diving Horvath.

The USMNT dominated the scoring chances in the first half with a 5-1 edge in shots on goal, yet the Swiss could have been ahead after 45 minutes.

Dest was called for a handball in the penalty area and Rodriguez stepped to the spot in the 42nd minute but sent a low strike outside of the right post.

Horvath made two saves on Breel Embolo, one off the right side of his face, in the first 15 minutes of the second half. Both tries came moments after a shot from Reyna’s hit the post.

The U.S. will play again Thursday at Denver with a roster that will include Pulisic and Steffen. The team will play in the CONCACAF National League semifinal against Honduras.
