Uruguay’s Pablo Cuevas knocked one of the home-country favorites out of the Belgrade Open on Monday, beating seventh-seeded Miomir Kecmanovic of Serbia 6-3, 6-2 in first-round action.

Cuevas, the world’s 91st-ranked player, recorded another big upset last week when he topped fourth-seeded Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria en route to the semifinals in Geneva, Switzerland.

On Monday, Cuevas won 28 of his 32 service points and saved all five break points he faced. He also converted three of his six break opportunities.

The other seeded players in action, fifth-seeded Dusan Lajovic of Serbia and eighth-seeded Federico Delbonis of Argentina, advanced to the second round. Also winning first-round matches were Slovakia’s Alex Molcan and Andrej Martin, Spain’s Fernando Verdasco and Roberto Carballes Baena, Germany’s Mats Moraing and Brazil’s Thiago Monteiro.

All action in Parma, Italy, was postponed due to rain. The first round will continue Tuesday.
