ATP roundup: Roger Federer upset by Pablo Andujar in Geneva

Pablo Andujar upset top-seeded Roger Federer 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 on Tuesday in the Swiss superstar’s home country and first match since March 11.

Andujar, ranked No. 75 in the world, ended Federer’s 32-match winning streak on Swiss soil in one hour, 52 minutes at the Gonet Geneva Open.

“We know how tennis goes and that’s where it’s so brutal sometimes,” Federer said. “But I feel like I didn’t deserve it at the end. There was just not enough happening in my game.”

Sixth-seeded Fabio Fognini of Italy made quick work of Argentina’s Guido Pella 6-2, 6-2 in just over an hour.

Other winners: Italy’s Marco Cecchinato, Uruguay’s Pablo Cuevas, Serbia’s Laslo Djere, Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics, Ilya Ivashka of Belarus, Spain’s Feliciano Lopez, and wild card Dominic Stephan Stricker of Switzerland.

Fifth-seeded Gael Monfils won while No. 7 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime fell in the Round of 32 on the clay in Lyon, France.

Monfils of France defeated Brazil’s Thiago Seyboth Wild 7-5, 6-4. Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti bounced Auger-Aliassime 7-6 (3), 3-6, 7-5. Eighth-seeded Karen Khachanov of Russia needed three sets to beat French wild card Benjamin Bonzi 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (4).

Other winners were American Tommy Paul, Richard Gasquet of France and Kamil Majchrzak of Poland.
