Novak Djokovic, the No. 1 player in the world, withdrew on Monday from the Western & Southern Open, which begins Sunday at Cincinnati.

Djokovic said he’s feeling the effects of a busy recent schedule that included a trip to Tokyo for the Olympics.

“I’m taking a bit longer to recover after quite a physical taxing journey from Australian Open up to Tokyo,” Djokovic wrote in a Twitter post. “Sadly, this means I won’t be ready to compete in Cincinnati this year so I’ll be turning my focus to the US Open and spending more time with my family.”

Djokovic, who has won three Grand Slam events this season – and 20 overall – has won the Cincinnati event twice.

At Tokyo, he lost in the semifinals of the Olympic men’s tournament to Germany’s Alexander Zverev before losing the bronze medal match to Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta.

The U.S. Open begins Aug. 30 at New York.
